Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely gotten through winter in Paso Robles just yet. Mother Nature may have a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s in full control. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall may bury your air conditioner in the snow, diminishing its performance when the temperatures begin to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can keep a high-efficiency system from operating as such. The situation could become an even bigger problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner run as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the upcoming days and weeks.

  1. Keep a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Check the area frequently to make sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that may have built up during the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, covering your air conditioner may end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner can be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, possibly meaning damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Paso Robles will probably go up and down over the last few days of colder temperatures, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can change the performance of your air conditioner. At Paso Robles Heating and Air in Paso Robles, we are always available to inspect any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re in regards to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
